CYBEROAM JOINS IWF’S CAUSE TO KEEP CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CONTENT AWAY
London, UK. 9 April, 2010
Cyberoam, a leading provider of Identity-based gateway and endpoint security, is now a member of the Internet Watch Foundation – the UK-based internet hotline to combat criminal online content, primarily child sexual abuse images hosted around the world.
Elitecore’s product, Cyberoam Unified Threat Management solution, will now include IWF’s list of child sexual abuse URLs in its Content Filtering engine database to combat criminal online content. Cyberoam’s powerful web filtering has one of the industry’s best and most comprehensive URL databases that secures organizations worldwide against potentially criminal or dangerous websites.
Abhilash Sonwane, VP – Product Management, Cyberoam, says, “The IWF is doing an outstanding job by assisting law enforcement agencies in preventing access to illegal online content and bringing those involved in operating these websites, to justice. By joining hands with the IWF, Elitecore pledges its support to this cause. As a member of the IWF, we will be playing a significant role in protecting children, especially those in the educational institutions in UK, from sexually abusive content.”
Peter Robbins OBE, QPM, Chief Executive, IWF says: “Elitecore joins over 100 companies in the UK and around the world in helping to combat criminal content on the internet. This is a global challenge and by working in partnership with so many we can continue to effectively diminish the volume and availability of child sexual abuse images on the internet. We are very pleased to welcome Elitecore as members of the Internet Watch Foundation and look forward to working together in the future.”
About the IWF
IWF was established in 1996 by the UK internet industry and works in partnership with the wider online industry, law enforcement, government, the education sector, charities, international partners and the public to minimise the availability of content within its remit. As a result of this self-regulatory approach, less than 1% of online child sexual abuse content has apparently been hosted in the UK since 2003, down from 18% in 1997.
Through the internet hotline reporting system, the IWF helps the online industry combat abuse of its services through a ‘notice and take-down’ initiative by alerting them to potentially criminal content within IWF’s remit on their systems and enabling the police to investigate those responsible. This self-regulatory partnership approach is widely recognised as a model of good practice in combating the abuse of technology for the dissemination of illegal content.
