Mr. Jayesh Menon
Assistant Manager - IT
Tristar

The aim of Tristar is to support the existing customer base in respect of their requirements to move clean petroleum products thus providing the industry with comprehensive end to end supply solutions for movement of petroleum wet stocks. Ship owning also helps to propel the activities of the group beyond the immediate region and to provide a global platform for expansion and growth.

Tristar Energy trades these vessels globally using industry best practices and detailed market analysis to identify best yielding opportunities and markets. The company’s growth strategy is directed toward consolidation of the groups existing customer base and entrance to the spot market to capture better returns.

We need internet for the communication with our customers and with many vendors across the globe. Thus Internet has come to be recognized as an essential tool to perform all the above activities.

Basic Perimeter Protection & IPS

Due to the multitude of personal data held in the IT systems — ranging from vendor details and staff payrolls to customer details — it is crucial for Tristar to ensure the highest level of security internally as well as to its customers. This sensitive information was under constant threat from spyware, and DoS attacks and many more. It was also significant to put a stop to any incident of communication loss or data tampering due to eavesdropping attacks from outsiders. So they needed a strong Firewall and IPS solution to fight against these attacks.

Uncontrolled Surfing

In absence of a Content Filtering solution the users could surf the Internet unbridled. This laid the company’s network bare to Internet based blended threats. It also hit the productivity of the company as the employees spent productive time, in unproductive surfing.

VPN Connectivity

Tristar has evolved into an organization with independent networks at 3 sites supporting hundreds of users. The primary challenges for Tristar were to provide access to sensitive data across a more secure and stable VPN and to improve the management reporting on Internet usage and accessibility.

The Cyberoam Solution

Mr. Jayesh Menon, the Assistant Manager – IT at Tristar scoured the market for a solution to fit their security needs. While studying the market, he came across Cyberoam UTM and took the final decision of buying it. The group purchased two (2) CR100i UTM and one (1) CR50i appliances – one appliance they deployed at the headquarters in Dubai, and others at the Dubai branch offices. Also they purchased two (2) CR100ia which are deployed at their offices in Africa. All the appliances were deployed in Gateway Mode.

The business benefits were as follows:

  • Total Perimeter Security

Cyberoam’s ICSA and Checkmark-certified firewall protects Tristar’s live email server and offers stateful and deep-packet inspection to provide granular access control over Internet and network resources. Mr. Menon used default IPS policies from the firewall rule itself to protect the company’s network from DoS & spoofing attacks and other exploits. Mr. Menon used Cyberoam’s intrusion prevention system to protect the organization from any internal or external intrusion attempts on the LAN and web/mail servers. The solution with its comprehensive database of signatures provides powerful zero-hour protection against spyware, Trojans, spoofing and DoS attacks, malicious code transmission and backdoor activities, thus, mitigating any potential threat from hackers.

  • Web URL Filter

Cyberoam’s gateway anti-virus and anti-spyware features guard all the web and mail protocols and ensure that no malware or spyware sneaks through the perimeter. Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD) powered signature-less anti spam technology works instantly on deployment, with the least human intervention and is language independent. It blocks spam in any language regardless of the content, e.g. image, audio, video or zip-based spam. The anti spam feature is also equipped with Virus Outbreak Detection. This protects the organization against any zero day attack.

  • Virtual Private Network Connectivity

Cyberoam’s IPSec VPN solution bridged the geographical distances between the organization’s branch and head offices. This now ensures that the user can connect securely from any location and use the organization’s resources. Highly encrypted traffic enforced security over the Internet and ensures that no malware sneaks through.

  • Conclusion

Talking about his Cyberoam experience, Mr. Menon said, ―Cyberoam has the ability to single-handedly offer many valuable features at an affordable price. They are indeed able to deliver what they promise.‖
