The guests depend on the Internet to access streaming video, video chat and VoIP phone calls. We need to provide a positive experience for guests.

Mr. Michael Adel
IT Manager
Sunrise Resorts & Cruises

Given that Sunrise Resorts & Cruise is into hospitality management and hotel operations, internet is used as a crucial tool for bookings used by the patrons. This made them to start creating websites for their hotels, introducing the online reservation booking system. With a website, their hotel can display their pictures for prospective guests to have a feel of the interior and exterior of the hotel, virtual tours and extensive reviews.

The guests depend on the Internet to access streaming video, video chat and VoIP phone calls. “We need to provide a positive experience for guests. Internet is a crucial resource. We use it for back office operations, for online booking, giving our guests a glimpse of what facilities we provide in our virtual tours and, simply for internet use by the guests. ” said Michael Adel, IT Manager at Sunrise Resorts.

The hotel was facing the following security and connectivity challenges related to its business activities.

Network Perimeter Defense

Due to multitude of personal data held in hotel IT systems ranging from guest addresses, staff payrolls to customer credit card and bank details, it is vital that Sunrise Resorts and Cruises guarantees the hotels and their guests 100% security for this data. Security breaches cannot be tolerated. The lack of perimeter defense made the network vulnerable to external threats such as Denial-of-service attacks and IP spoofing. Consequently, Mr. Adel wanted a gateway firewall for first layer protection of the entire network.

VPN Connectivity

The hotel wanted secure VPN connectivity for its guests with no interruptions to their work. Internet is relied on heavily to enable remote sites VPN access back to the main office. The primary challenges for Sunrise Resorts and Cruise was to provide access to sensitive data across a more secure and stable VPN and to improve the management reporting on Internet usage and accessibility.

The Cyberoam Solution

Before zeroing in on Cyberoam, Sunrise Resorts & Cruise had done a preliminary testing on other solutions. They purchased eight (8) units of Cyberoam CR15i appliance after it met their desired requirements, later deploying it in gateway mode at their head office. Some have been deployed in Nile cruise sailing between Luxor & Aswan through the river Nile. It led to immediate benefits for the resort as discussed under:

  • Firewall Protection

ICSA and Checkmark - dual certified Cyberoam’s stateful inspection firewall now cordons off hotel’s network against any unauthorized access. Sunrise Resorts and Cruise users are given controlled access to network and internet resources, ensuring that no security loopholes are left open.

  • Virtual Private Network Connectivity

Cyberoam’s IPSec VPN solution bridged the geographical distances between the hotel’s head offices and cruises. This now ensures secure inter-office connectivity from any location and use the hotel’s resources. Highly encrypted traffic enforced security over the Internet and ensures that no malware sneaks through.

  • To round it off

To round it off “Cyberoam had proved very useful for our organization. It has helped us to achieve what we desired. In one line we can say - Cyberoam is a solid product with some unique features - very easy to set up and manage.” Mr. Adel concluded.
