Mr. M. Srinivasa Rao (addressed as MS throughout this Case Study), the Dy. IT General Manager at Sakshi said, “Internet is one of the most business critical resources for our organization. Hence uninterrupted Internet connectivity and security are our major necessities.”

The following issues were faced:

Business Connectivity Issues

Sakshi uses Reliance and Aircel ISPs for Internet connectivity. But they did not have a solution that could load balance the Internet traffic. Moreover, if any of the links failed they had to juggle between the links manually to find the failed link and then configure it again to bring the network connectivity up. This resulted in an unacceptable amount of network downtime. Hence, multiple ISP links load balancing, and failover was the most significant requirement for them.

Unmonitored Web Access

MS wanted to prevent his employees from getting distracted by surfing unproductive sites, downloading or uploading videos, music and other non-work-related tasks. Accessing bandwidth hungry websites choked the available bandwidth to such as extent that at times legitimate applications also became inaccessible. As a result, productivity and business both suffered.

The Cyberoam Solution

Sakshi considered many solutions including SonicWall and WatchGuard to meet their requirements. After having a demo of Cyberoam, they found it to be the best of all. They purchased One (1) CR500ia and deployed it at the Head Office in Gateway Mode. The benefits noticed are:

  • Firewall – Securing the Network

Cyberoam’s Firewall is ICSA and Check Mark Certified, providing granular access controls over Internet traffic and network resources. Users are given controlled access to network and internal resources, ensuring that no security let-outs are left open. Moreover, its Fusion technology enables the administrator to create policies for multiple features through a single interface, thereby simplifying the administration of multiple appliances.

  • Business Connectivity Maintained

Cyberoam’s Multiple Link Management, wisely distributes the Internet traffic between the two ISP links ensuring their optimum utilization. It also enables MS to assign weights to each ISP links such that the traffic load is distributed accordingly. Moreover, the Multi-Link Manager keeps a constant eye on the performance of the links. If any of the links fail the load is automatically transferred to the working link, leading to all-time Internet accessibility.

MS said, “Thanks to Cyberoam, the network has now become stable and we do not experience down time anymore”.

  • Monitored Web Access

Cyberoam offers a comprehensive database of millions of sites grouped into 82+ categories allowing access only to those sites which are permitted by IT guidelines of the company. Cyberoam’s Web and Application Filtering blocks all malware-laden sites, P2P, IMs, illegal audio, video, streaming media and other bandwidth-intensive download.

Moreover, Cyberoam’s identity-based filtering allows creating and assigning schedules, policies and level of access to individual users based on their designation and role for surfing the web. In addition, HTTPS scanning controls unauthorized secure access, thereby preventing unauthorized download, upload and data leakage. Moreover, its safe search facility protects the users from accessing harmful websites intentionally or unintentionally.

MS said, “Using Cyberoam’s Web Filtering solution, we are assured that unproductive and harmful websites are not accessed”.

  • Secured Remote Access

Cyberoam’s On-Appliance SSL VPN solution provides Anywhere, Any Time and Any Device VPN connectivity. Hence it provides a secure and stable connectivity between the company and its remote workers. Cyberoam ensures that with less configuration and easy setup, the employees can easily and securely connect and access the remote resources from any location. MS said, “With the help of Cyberoam the use of third party remote access tools has reduced significantly.”

  • To Conclude

MS said, “Thanks to Cyberoam, most of our security issues have been solved. I would recommend it to all.”
