Mr. Surya Chandra Raju Mudunuri, the IT Manager at Bakhresa Group mentioned,
“Being devoid of a UTM solution, we were unable to control the misuse of Internet and
secure our network completely.”
Perilous Network Periphery
The network of SSB was open to vulnerable attacks like DoS, DDoS and other network threats. Therefore, if the network was infected by any of these threats it would lead to data leakage, file corruption and even serious network downtime. Hence, protecting the unsecured network was a subject of concern for Mr. Mudunuri.
Excessive and Unproductive Internet Usage
Mr. Mudunuri wanted to prevent his employees from getting distracted by unproductive websites like social networking sites, music and such other entertainment-related websites. He said, “We have known that many employees get diverted from their tasks”. As a result work suffered. Also, sometimes employees unknowingly landed on malicious websites by surfing or downloading malware-laden applications which represented an additional coating of threat. Moreover, due to these activities deficiency of bandwidth was observed making legitimate applications almost inaccessible. Hence, productivity and bandwidth both were immensely hampered.
Lack of VPN Connectivity between the Offices
Mr. Mudunuri said, “There was no VPN solution that could connect our remote offices with the Head Office. As a result, the resources at the Head Office could not be accessed. Moreover, often our inter-office communications were solely dependent on long distance telephone calls which we re very expensive. Hence we faced many complications, holding back our business benefits.”
No Traffic Sharing Facility
One of the biggest challenges faced by the company was to ensure constant availability of their organization’s network and data. Mr. Mudunuri stated, “Due to the unavailability of ISP infrastructure, we depended on multiple connections which lacked load balancing. Hence, if a single connection went down we suffered great losses. Our transactions and communication through that particular connection were badly affected.”
