The sensitive servers and customer information were under constant threat from spyware, DoS attacks, fragmented and malformed packets, and blended threats. So we needed a strong IPS solution.
Mr. Aliyu Atiku
Premium Pension Limited
The IT Head, at Premium Pension Limited, Mr. Aliyu Atiku outlined the basic requirements saying, “Internet is one of the most business critical resources for our organization.”
Business Need of Internet
The security scenario in Premium Pension Limited springs from widespread usage of the Internet for managing daily business operations. Internet is the most vital element for the organization. They need internet to provide 24 * 7 online access to customers accounts, monitor (investment) markets, communicate and collect contributions from employers, and communicate with their funds custodians.
Stronger Intrusion Preventions Capability
The company’s gateway at the Nigeria head office housed web and mail servers, and customer information. These sensitive servers were under constant threat from spyware, DoS attacks, fragmented and malformed packets, blended threats and more. Premium Pension Limited wanted its Intrusion Prevention solution to prevent any incident of communication loss or data tampering due to eavesdropping attacks from outsiders.
Malware and Spam Control
The organization was facing frequent breakdown issues due to annoying virus, root-kit, worm, Trojan and spyware infections. These malware attacks which often took a blended form through email attachments, PDF, Word documents etc. had the potential to corrupt useful files and destroy important data.
Supervising Website Access
“As Internet use grows in business, so do the risks of uncontrolled access. When employees inadvertently or deliberately access sites containing inappropriate, illegal, or dangerous content, Premium Pension Limited lose productivity, expose themselves to legal liability, and in some cases experience degraded network performance”, said Mr. Atiku. Thus, the organization needed an effective filtering solution which can help solve these problems by blocking access to inappropriate Web sites or those that can detract from employee productivity.
Business Continuity Concerns
One major issue was the connectivity problem. "If Internet was down our business activities would come to a halt," Mr. Atiku said. To avoid a single point of failure, multiple locations had multiple ISP links. So, multiple ISP links load balancing, and failover is also a critical need.
The Cyberoam Solution
In order to address their business challenges, Premium Pension Nigeria looked into a number of security products. However, after seeing a trial demo of Cyberoam they took the decision of replacing the existing Cisco ASA Firewall device at the head office with a Cyberoam CR100ia “accelerator” series UTM appliance. “Cisco ASA lacked the flexibility and ability to apply restrictions based on user identity and also the configuration of the device was very complex”, said Mr. Atiku.
