Panevezys Republican Hospital

Mr. Gvidas Gruzdas, IT Administrator, at PRH said, "Viruses and unauthorized uploads/downloads damaged our network and had become a cause of anxiety for us".

The network security issues faced were:

Malware Intruding into the Network

General and unrestricted surfing provided an opportunity for malware to enter the network. These malicious objects like Trojans, viruses, spyware etc. entered the network quietly and unknowingly through surfing, Emails, downloading and VPN tunnels. Hence, Mr. Gruzdas wanted to safeguard the hospital's network from such attacks that resulted in adverse consequences such as loss of data, corrupt files and system crashes leading to network failure. attacks.

Unproductive Internet Usage

Often Mr. Gruzdas felt that their available Internet resource was not utilized productively. There was a high probability of employees getting diverted from their tasks by accessing social networking sites, chatting, downloading/uploading videos, music and doing other non-work related activities. As a result, many a times legitimate applications either became inaccessible or took a lot of time to open due to inadequate bandwidth. Moreover, some websites were malware-laden that entered the network secretly and caused destruction, affecting productivity.

The Cyberoam Solution

PRH explored the market for a solution that could protect their network from viruses and control the user's access. During their search, they found Cyberoam to be capable of providing all the solutions and purchased One (1) CR300i appliance. They deployed it in Gateway Mode at their Head Office in Panevezys, Lithuania.

The positive results found after deploying Cyberoam in their network are:

  • Security of Network Fringe

Cyberoam's Firewall, with ICSA and Checkmark certifications protects the network perimeter from DoS, IP Spoofing and other network attacks. It provides granular access controls over Internet traffic and network resources. Also, its Fusion Technology facilitates the administrator in creating policies for multiple features through a single interface, in just one shot.

Mr. Gruzdas said, "Cyberoam's Firewall efficiently secures the network fringe".

Cyberoam's Check Mark Level 5 certified Gateway Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware solution offers web, Email and Instant Messaging security against malware, including viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware and key loggers. Email, Web and VPN traffic is also scanned for malware. It also blocks attachments for specified file types like executables, media files, password-protected files etc. before any malware infects the network and creates troubles for the hospital.

Mr. Gruzdas said, "Cyberoam Anti-Virus assures us that no malware could sneak into the network".

  • Safe and Productive Internet Usage

Cyberoam's powerful Web Filtering solution, with more than 89 categories, keeps the staff effectively focused on their tasks. It enables Mr. Gruzdas to customize the web filtering policies and enforce selective Internet access and surfing rights based on employees' working requirements. Moreover, Cyberoam's Application Filtering ensures that all P2P, IMs, illegal audio, video, streaming media and other bandwidth-intensive download are blocked and that there is no data leakage. Moreover,

Cyberoam, with its identity-based filtering, allows the administrator to create schedules and assign Internet access policies to individual users based on a certain criteria. In addition, HTTPS scanning controls unauthorized access, preventing unauthorized download, upload and data leakage. As a result, this helps the hospital in increased productivity and security of network from malwares.

This helps him in creating policies for controlling the activities of the users on the basis of identity rather than IP Addresses. Thus, it helps him to keep an eye on the traffic, going in and out of the network.

On the other hand, the staff also controls their surfing habits knowing that their activities on Internet are being watched upon.
