Any organization, big or small, requires Internet for most of its business activities

“Any organization, big or small, requires Internet for most of its business activities”, said Mr. Suman Lal V K, IT Manager at Interplast. They mainly use Internet for communication with their partners and customers through emails, video conferencing, etc. Apart from that, Internet is required for online trading, online banking and general surfing purposes.

According to Mr. Lal, Interplast was facing the following Internet security and connectivity challenges related to its business activities:

Unrestricted Web Surfing

One of Mr. Lal‘s main concerns was heavy use of Internet by employees. Since there were no restrictions on Internet access, employees had the freedom to surf as they pleased. This brought down the overall productivity of the company. Furthermore, unrestricted browsing and upload/download of data put a strain on the organization‘s available bandwidth.

Threat of Malware

The organization‘s network was quite vulnerable to attacks from viruses, worms, Trojans, etc. The primary source of malware was Phishing mails that trapped unknowing employees into clicking malware-ridden links. “I am usually in fire-fighting mode, where I have to detect and eradicate virus attacks after they break out. I would rather have a solution that proactively clears away any possibility of attacks from the gateway itself”, said Mr. Lal.

Manually Managing Multiple Links

Another concern for Mr. Lal was managing Two (2) Internet links. At any point of time, Internet connectivity was provided by a primary link. If this link failed, it caused disruption in the business activities. Additionally, Mr. Lal had to perform failover manually which proved to be quite a tedious task.

The Cyberoam Solution

“I had had excellent reviews about Cyberoam from several organizations in varied sectors like government and banks. In fact, the reviews exceeded my expectation. So I straight-away decided to go for Cyberoam”, said Mr. Lal. They deployed One (1) CR 50i at their Head Office in Accra in Gateway Mode.

After installation of Cyberoam, the following business benefits were noticed.

  • Network Perimeter Secured

Cyberoam UTM shields the entire Interplast network from outside threats like spyware attacks, spoofing and DoS attacks. It‘s ICSA and Checkmark - dual certified stateful and deep-packet inspection firewall segregates the LAN, and internal servers from unauthorized outside access. Additionally, Cyberoam‘s 4000+ signatures tough Intrusion Prevention System adds a second line of defence against network attacks.

  • Malware Controlled

Cyberoam‘s Gateway Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware solution secures the Interplast network by providing real-time protection against viruses, worms, Trojans, keyloggers, spyware and more on all network traffic. According to Mr. Lal, “Since viruses are overpowered at the gateway itself, we are relieved that our network is much less likely to fall prey to virus attacks”.

  • Business Continuity Maintained

Mr. Lal uses Cyberoam‘s Automatic Link Failover to ensure continuous connectivity with the Internet. Interplast uses 2 Internet links out of which one acts as the primary link while the other acts as a backup. In case of failure of the primary link, Cyberoam seamlessly redirects Internet traffic through the backup link without manual intervention, hence, reducing the IT team‘s burden.

  • Efficient Technical Support

“I want to take this opportunity to mention that post-sales technical support by the Cyberoam Team is truly commendable. Their expertise gives us more confidence in Cyberoam”, said Mr. Lal.

  • To Wind Up

Expressing his contentment, Mr. Lal said, “Cyberoam is a wonderful demonstration of technology in the field of Internet Security. We are very satisfied with the way our Network Gateway is safeguarded.”
