Mr. Dhaval Shah, the Network IT at GSPL, said, "We used a solution that was devoid of any reporting and hence it was very difficult for us to know about the surfing trends of employees". The issues that they faced were:

Unmonitored User Activity

Dhaval said, "We used Juniper as a security solution, but it did not have any reporting feature. As a result, it could not give us reports based on which we could control the surfing behaviour of users. Hence, it was very difficult to know what was going on in the network and no action could be taken against anyone. This gave liberty to everyone for doing whatever they wished, affecting bandwidth and productivity of our organization".

Unrestrained Web Surfing

Dhaval wanted his employees to completely concentrate on work and turn them away from accessing unproductive websites. He said, "We have known that many employees get diverted from their tasks by social networking sites, music and such other entertainment-related websites". Due to this, productivity was affected and bandwidth was also unduly utilized.

The Cyberoam Solution

Having been dissatisfied with Juniper, GSPL was in search of a solution that could provide them security as well as reporting. GSPL found Cyberoam to be the best-fit and purchased One (1) CR300i appliance. They deployed it at the Head Office in Gateway Mode.

After deploying Cyberoam in the network, the benefits that they notice are:

  • Safe Network Periphery

Cyberoam's Firewall is ICSA and Check Mark Certified, providing granular access controls over Internet traffic and network resources. It provides deep packet inspection for network based security thereby protecting the company from DoS, IP Spoofing and other network attacks.

  • Monitored and Controlled User Activity

Cyberoam's On-Appliance Reporting feature enables the company to know "Who is doing What?" across the network and remote locations. It includes features like Traffic Discovery, Internet Bandwidth Usage Monitors, Top Accessed Categories and Google Search Reports, which enhance the visibility of a user's online behaviour. Additionally, this feature comes at no extra cost. Having 1000+ granular reports at their service, the company can keep a track of each employee and know the work tendency. Hence based on the tendency, the company can also twist the business policies to stop the surfing habits of the users.

On the other hand, when the employees come to know that their activities are being monitored, they work accordingly, leading to increased productivity.

Dhaval said, "Cyberoam's Reporting feature has helped us immensely in knowing the work trend of employees and controlling them accordingly".

  • Restrained Web Surfing

Cyberoam's Web Filtering solution provides a database of millions of URLs divided into 82+ categories, helping Dhaval to allow the staff to access only those websites that are authorized by the company's policies. The Web and Application Filtering blocks all malware-laden sites, P2P, Instant Messengers, illegal audio, video, streaming media and other bandwidth-intensive download. Cyberoam's identity-based filtering allows administrator to create schedules and assign Internet access policies, surfing quota, time limits and bandwidth restrictions to individual user based on certain criteria.

haval said, "Cyberoam's Web and Application Filtering solution has efficiently regulated the surfing trend of users".

  • To Conclude

Dhaval said,"Through Cyberoam, the employees' Internet surfing trend has improved significantly, increasing productivity".
