Cyberoam Helps ARBASCO Deliver High Network Security to Meet Challenging Aviation Standards
About Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School, Education
Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School (ARKIS) situated at Bahrain became a
recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in May 2008. It is committed to
provide bilingual education by implementing recognized international well-balanced
We needed a solution that would provide a productive Internet security for our students. We were looking for non-intrusive and non-restrictive Internet security.
Mr. Mohamed Niroz
The ARKIS Challenge
ARKIS used a network security solution to protect the network from harmful stuff and provide identity based access to its users. But it was difficult to use and unsatisfactory. Mr. Mohamed Niroz, the System Administrator, at ARKIS said, “We needed a solution that would provide a productive Internet security for our students. We were looking for non-intrusive and non-restrictive Internet security” .
ARKIS faced Internet security issues related to:
Unsecured Network Perimeter
The data center of the school contained information about the students, exam papers, training programs, faculty‘s information, fees, course information and changes to be brought in the next academic year. All this sensitive information was under constant threat from spyware, DoS attacks and unauthorized access.
Moreover ARKIS had the responsibility to protect its students from the malware threats and keep the network up and running continuously. Mr. Niroz said, “Protecting sensitive data and student‘s innocence from threats and inappropriate websites was a chief cause of distress for ARKIS” .
The students used Internet in the school for research and study purposes. While doing so they were exposed to threats like viruses, Trojans, phishing, malware etc. It was the responsibility of the organization to provide continuous Internet access to its students. Hence protection from such malware was a prime concern for the organization.
Uninhibited Web Access
Like many other institutions even ARKIS had students that accessed Internet for surfing and accessing social networking websites. Moreover it was difficult for the faculty at ARKIS to keep an eye on the activities of the students. In addition to this, the solution which they used did not provide schedule based Internet access facility, which would limit the web and application access of students. Mr. Niroz said, “To get protection in terms of quantity and quality by limiting the Internet usage and protecting the innocence of children from harmful content was a matter of concern for ARKIS” .
In ARKIS the available bandwidth was not being utilized effectively. The students used Internet for working on the tasks given as well as for unproductive purposes. This hampered the bandwidth to such an extent that sometimes even the legitimate applications were difficult to access. Hence the school wanted to restrict its students from uploading/downloading bandwidth-hungry content such as Music, Videos, online games and Streaming Media, and protect them from Malware laden websites.
The Cyberoam Solution
ARKIS used Sonicwall to address their business challenges but they were not satisfied.
After having a demo of Cyberoam from Canar Trading, a partner to Cyberoam, they were
impressed with its features and felt that Cyberoam was an evident choice for them. The
school then deployed One (1) CR 300i appliance in its data center in Gateway Mode.
